Shyam Maheshwari has 25+ years in financial services. He spent his first decade at Lehman Brothers, starting in Tokyo to help build the credit business (high grade, high yield, illiquid) and moving to Hong Kong in 2006 to develop the India franchise—including a lending platform, local-currency debt and equity investing, and a partnership with an asset manager focused on non-performing loans (NPLs).In 2009, he co-founded SSG Capital Management, an Asian illiquid credit and distressed investing platform, growing AUM from <US$100m in year one to >US$7bn by late 2019. He was instrumental in the investment function and served on the investment committee, relocating to Singapore in 2014 to open the office and expand focus on Southeast Asia alongside India. In 2020, Ares Management acquired a majority stake in SSG. Mr. Maheshwari retired from Ares SSG in Dec 2021 and established his family office in Singapore.
